the police set suspect they were seeing some red flags and all of this. she was requested to tell the story again and here is albert morales. >> we felt the need to bring the mother into the police department because there was some inconsistencies. some red flags that released in the interviews. after a short. . of time. she finally admitted the entire store was a fabrication. it is frustrating for a police department to say the least. i asked in front of the cameras even as a parent and had the idea of the gravity of the events that unfolded. and to find out that those

filing a false police report. they however, still that to take these cases seriously. reporting live in san jose, rob fladeboe, kron 4 news. also in the south bay, a new sketch of a man wanted for trying to snatch a child at a mall. more on the police search for this man - tonight at six. >> the flu has claimed the life of its first bay area resident this season. an elderly woman in santa clara county.. so far, there have been at least four other flu related deaths state-wide. one in sacramento, one in madera, and two in southern california. kron 4's dan kerman joins us now with more on this. >> reporter: the woman who passed away, was 98 years old and died clara county. in addition to the flu she also suffered from a variety of other illnesses including pneumonia. public health officials say this should serve as a reminder that people should get a flu shot. this is especially important

because the flu season has not yet peeked in california. in fact it may not peek until february or early march. >> we are in the middle of flu season it could get worse before it gets better. there are other things that could happen. we must stay hydrated. keep our hands washed anybody over six months of age, the youngest, the oldest, and higher risk individuals. >> pam: how well does this current strains of flu a match with the vaccine that is available? we asked that same question and he says the this is a very good match. you never know what quite match is coming out but this should help knock it out. remember, it takes a couple of weeks for it to get into your system. waiting would be a problem.

>> there are more consequences for lance armstrong over his involvement in doping. the olympic committee has stripped armstrong of his bronze medal from the 2000 sydney olympics. the move was made after armstrong did not appeal to the decision to disqualify him. another developing story we're following. giants slugger pablo sandoval is in the hospital in venezuela. with an abdominal issue. that's according to a tweet posted by his brother, michael sandoval. sandoval had been playing for a venezuelan league n f l during the off-season. he is expected to return to ash that team. within a couple of days. >> jacqueline: a beautiful day with 60s nearly

the public. to track this man down. he is the last remaining suspect. in a deadly jewelry store robbery. investigators say, manuel arroyo. and three other suspects, tried to rob the gold n' treausres store on san ramon boulevard last year. but -- the heist was thwarted. when someone who worked at the store shot and killed one of the suspects. >> marin county is scheduled to hold a second gun buyback next week. that's even though the county ran out of money during first one. on tuesday, more than 40- thousand dollars was given out to people turning in guns. when they ran out money, officials turned to vouchers -- which they hope to pay back within the next 30- days. for now, no money will be handed out at the next buyback, which scheduled for next monday. , no questions asked way to get rid of a gun. >> catherine: yelp is going to start displaying health inspection information about restaurants on its review site. san francisco will be the first city in the country to post the new health scores on yelp. kron 4 tech reporter gabe slate shows us how it works.

>> the 415 area code is getting company - it's just not clear exactly who will be impacted. the 415 area code is expected to be used up by october of 2015.and california's public utilities commission is holding public hearings today - trying to figure out how to introduce the new 628 area code to the bay aera. the cpuc can choose to either split the 415 region into two parts, forcing some residents to switch area codes, or assign the new 628 area code only to new numbers, which is called an overlay. lots of people are very attached to their area codes.and many are commenting about the change here on our kron-4 facebook fan page. daniel: overlay.let the existing 415 numbers stay the same. 628?! nobody will be happy to have that. arlene: just like daly city

grant lodes is here to help us make sense of this story. grant, what in the world is going on here? >> i have no idea. manti t'eo says he's the victim of a demented joke. some skeptics think he lied about a romantic relationship.in order to get more publicity. t'eo is a mormon from hawaii who went to a catholic college in indiana.and almost won the heisman trophy in december. last fall t'eo told reporters his girlfriend attended stanford - got into a bad car accident, then died of lukemia. after this story broke t'eo released a statement saying it's painful and humiliating to realize he was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies. this twitter photo is manti te'o at the img academy in bradenton, florida, where he's training for the nfl

with a look at how the virus has spread. >> reporter: when people get sick they tend to go online and search for things like flu remedies. for the past few years google has been collecting this search data and using it to track the spread of the flu. they call it google flu trends and right now flu trends shows that the every state is seeing intense or high flu activity. here in california we have high flu activity. this graph shows that right now there's a spike in flu related searches that higher than in any previous year. flu trends also has a feature that shows flu activity in individual cities. google calls it an experimental feature because the results haven't been compared to cdc data. here in the bay area, we can see results for san francisco, oakland , and san jose. in san francisco, flu trends shows that there is intense flu activity, much higher than in previous years. over in oakland, there's high activity and finally in the south bay google flu trends says that there is also high activity in san jose. now, while google flu
